No Limit Omaha Preflop Tips

  1. Play Tight – Having a tight starting hand range is very important in no limit Omaha. The stronger your hand is the easier it is to play. This means that you have less room for error. As your game progresses you can open up your starting range a little bit. Make sure that you are only playing hands that you are comfortable playing.
  2. Early Position – In early position you want to be playing much tighter than you normally would. You only want to open up with hands that can handle a reraise or being called by multiple opponents. Since you have more opponents that can give you opposition when you are in early position you need to play a stronger range of hands to make up for how many players you could be up against and the fact that those players will have position on you for every following street.
  3. Late Position – You also need to make sure that you open up your range a bit when you are in late position. This is to make up for how tight you are playing in early position and to increase how much you are stealing the blinds. You can afford to raise with a wider range of hands in late position because there are less players that could potentially oppose you and your chances of taking the pot down then and there are much higher.
  4. Play Aggressive – Having the best hand at showdown isn’t the only way to win the hand. You can also win a lot of money by simply playing aggressive. The best way to say, “I have a strong hand” is to bet. If you look strong a lot of times your opponents will just throw away their weak hands because they are afraid of how strong you are telling them your hand is. You will come to find that a lot of your money in no limit Omaha comes from forcing your opponents to fold. If you are the aggressor then you control the hand and your opponent has to answer to you.
  5. Be Prepared to Fold – When you are raising in late position and you are shown opposition you need to be ready to give up. When you raise with a wide range of hands in late position you are trying to increase how much you steal the blinds. You are earning free money every time you steal the blinds preflop. This is a great addition to your Omaha bankroll. You need to know ahead of time though that you have to let these hands go when they don’t achieve their main purpose which is to take the pot down then and there. You are already losing your bet in this position. You don’t need to lose any more trying to take the hand back.
